Transparency is everything in the business of Professional and Personal Development. And it's essential that those I work with feel reassured that they will be understood, that their Coach can relate to their story. And so here is mine, in brief, that led to the launch of Vocalise in 2011.

My path led me from the world of filmmaking and journalism into personal development in an indirect way. I was lucky enough to have interviewed some inspiring individuals: musicians, business leaders, political personalities, actors, even The Dalai Lama. I made documentaries and screened them at international festivals and worked on TV and Film productions. And though it may all sound great to read, it was physically rather demanding, and as an environment, emotionally draining. On top of which, coming from a ‘film family’ brought with it plenty of invisible challenges, particularly outside expectation and my own “am I good enough” self doubts. Later I used my self awareness to form the inner critic reduction exercises that really freed me from the worst symptoms of low self esteem and helped me manage any lingering ones that might crop up. But back then, in a quest for impossible perfection, I eventually burnt out. Now I recognise that, though it didn't feel that way at the time, it was a fortuitous moment to deviate from what was expected, to disregard the rules and analyse what really worked; to start again.

At this crossroads, I decided that instead of continuing to re-tell people's stories, I wanted to be more involved in developing their futures; to help them move onwards and sculpt the most excellent, self assured versions of themselves. I was drawn to helping others who had experienced childhood trauma and was motivated by a desire to share what I learnt in my own healing, I began developing exercises that led me to also work more closely with individuals suffering from the debilitating symptoms of Complex Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. With that, plus public speaking and performance skills in my pocket, I began coaching people with whom I felt a great affinity and empathy. Sometimes these were high achieving individuals, often successful and talented in their own right, and others, still seeking their true path, yet, for whatever reason feeling they were not in control or not where they were supposed to be in their professional and personal lives. All slightly hijacked by lack of self belief, manifesting in random ways: the inability to speak in public, to formulate their ideas in meetings, to voice opinions, to make decisions; to move towards a deserved better future…

The self esteem coaching exercises I have developed come from merging the methods that I have observed have had a real impact on both mine and my client’s quality of living. It is combined with both a fascination for the root causes of low self esteem and a continued desire to help individuals tackle their self doubt and tap in to a stronger, self supporting mindset.

Together with some highly effective techniques to improve communication ability, alongside energy enhancing, mindset strengthening methods that I am passionate about, it has resulted in many heartening success stories, such as: people who couldn't comfortably speak to an audience eventually finding their voice and discovering, in fact, hidden performance strengths; individuals finding a calm-assertive side of their personalities that helped them deal with conflict better or be heard at work for the first time; seniors who have successfully reinvented themselves after a career or life change; women embracing their true voice, individualism and independence…

I look forward to working with you too, towards achieving the empowerment, success and happiness that you dream of and deserve.
